Which Banks system?

We have a 2005 Ford F250 with Power Stroke 6.0L turboe diesel. I am in the early research stages of picking a Banks system. The goal will primarily be increassed MPG with secondary goal being increased towing power for when and if we ever get rid of "The Old Gal" and move to a 5th wheel. I also do not have an unlimited budget for this. Looking at the Banks web site, it looks like the Power Pack system is a good candidate. What y'all think?

RE: Fridge gasket falling off double sided tape

Two part epoxy, good idea. I'll give that serious consideration.

Fridge gasket falling off double sided tape

A couple of years ago I replaced the door seal and attached the new with double sided 3M tape. This was per the replacement instructions for the manufacturers way too expense replacement kit. The tape is still sticking great to the door but the gasket has come loose. I was thinking of leaving the tape on and using either contact cement or some of that adhesive in a spray can. Any suggestions?

RE: Inverter question

You started out with - I added a 1000 watt xantrex inverter and connected it to the circuit with both of my TV/DVD players... My take was that the TVs and DVD players did not need the plug moved to run off the inverter, that the inverter was tied into the circuit that runs them. I don't have a big inverter and don't know how they are supposed to be wired in, so maybe the ground & neutral on the same buss is not the problem.

RE: GFCI Breaker tripping/Open ground somewhere?

Check the breaker panel in the fiver. See if the ground and neutral there are wired to the same buss. If they are, that is where the GFI is detecting the ground fault. Learned this due to a poor job a previous owner did on wiring in a shore power cable for my rear AC (only 30 amp service and rear AC was hardwired to genset only from factory).

RE: ford 460 temp gauge sending unit location

The engine temp sending unit is toward the middle of the block very near where the radiator hose attaches on top. If I remember, it is a little behind as well. It has been a few years since I replaced the junky OEM gauge with a real engine temperature gauge on mine.

RE: Inverter question

I suspect, based on your description, that you are tying into the circuit after the breaker. This might be causing a ground fault reading as the inverter is 'seeing' the ground and neutral tied together in the breaker panel (assuming they are tied together). Try flipping all the breakers off and see if that gets rid of the fault light.

RE: Eternabond and Liquid Roof

I used Eternabond and Liquid Roof when I rebuilt the roof on my 1988 motorhome back in 2005. I would say to use the Eternabond first and then put the Liquid Roof on. I used the Webseal variety of Eternabond which has a woven polyester backing and needs to be coated with a UV protectant such as Liquid Roof. If you do go with the Webseal, it will probably need a second coat. You might get away with only one coat if you put it on extra thick.

RE: Help Power Converter problem

bestconverter.com is also a good source for the Progressive Dynamics converters. They have the 9200 series in some amp ratings where the 'Charge Wizard' function is built in. Research the converter make and model in your TT. If it is a multi-phase one, it might be cheaper to fix than replace. I assume it is only a few years old based on your signature.

RE: Dometic Fridge won't cool.

Sounds like a bad heating element that blew the fuse. I agree having it fixed under warranty.

RE: refrigerator cooling

Computers have a power supply much like the converter in an RV to step the 120VAC down to a steady and clean 12VDC. If you do get some computer fans, get ones that are ball bearing instead of sleeve bearing in the shaft. I read on the net somewhere that sleeve bearings don't do well when mounted vertically (fan horizontal). You could get fancy and wire them up through a thermal switch (CF110) mounted on the exterior cooling fins. That way the fans kick on automatically and you would not need to worry about remember to turn them off an on.

RE: Need sm. 12v generator

If he is bound and determined to have a straight 12VDC generator, his best bet may be to build his own. I think the Honda generator + good battery charger is the best bet. Also more flexible.

RE: Dometic Refrigerator Burner - does this look right?

Yep. It looks wierd, but my old Dometic is pretty much the same with that huge gap between the gas jet orifice and the burner.

RE: Replacing skylight dome over shower

I replaced mine as part of the roof rebuild I did back in 2003. I bought the dome from Global Plastics up in Canada. They will make it whatever size you need. It doesn't come with the holes predrilled so you will need to do that. The recommend on the web site not drilling holes in it but I have had no problems with mine. I used standard butyl tape under the edge and then used Eternabond tape around the edge. The roof is now curved (big reason for the complete rebuild) so I applied the strips of tape working from low to high, like one would do when shingling a roof.

RE: Frig Help Needed

A multimeter will go a long way in troubleshooting the problem. YOu have to mae sure that the card is getting 10.5 volts minimum. From there, you can check the voltage out to the various devices while the fridge is in different modes. Be sure not to try and check the voltage on the spoark ignitor (assuming it has one). I tried that and it fried my multimeter. Something I did while troubleshooting my fridge a while back was to disconnect the main 12V power to the junction block and reconnect through a standard household on/off switch. This kept me from having to run in and out to get the fridge to try and get the gas fired up, which was my problem. Good luck.

RE: Can't drain potable water

I would bet you have either a kink in the drain line or a blockage of some kind (maybe some algae or something. Inpect the hose closely. If you don't find anything obvious, run some very low pressure compressed air through it, no more than 20-25 PSI. If it was me, I would try to disconnect the drain hose from the tank to blow it out. Just make sure the spigot is open.

RE: Dometic RM2801

Could be many things; being parked unlevel, the thermistor or board going bad, etc. Check out the service manual page at bryantrv.com. There are a ton of downloadable service manuals. I did not find one that specifically covers the RM2801, with a little luck, maybe you will find the right one or one that is close enough. Hopefully it isn't so far gone that it can't be repaired. If it is really old and you can't fix it yourself, you might consider replacing it. Shop charges can add up fast. Don't rule out the possibility of two seperate problems. Perhaps the heating element is going bad at the same time something is wrong with the flame. If you rarely run on propane, maybe some maintenance would help out that part.

RE: Gotta take those turns a little wider!!!! (Video)

After seeing that vidoe, I thank God that my first learning incident only involved riding the left rears up on a high curb, twisting the coach a bit and cracking the heck out of the driver side windshield. The only casualties in my incident were two broken bottles of beer when stuff came flying out of the fridge. Looks like the fiver and truck took some serious damage and someone may have neen hurt.

RE: What if your MH rolls on its side?

I would guess that there would be a good chance that the frame would torque to the point that the windshield would pop its seal and exit could be made that way. If you are concerned about ending up on your side, buy a hammer and strap it down tight on the dashboard somehow. That way you can get to it no mater what side the RV ends up on and bust the windshield out.

RE: Water Heater not working correctly?

My first guess would be regulator or propane supply causing weak flow. I have never heard of the valve only half working, but the symptoms suggest that as a remote possiblity. If the propane supply check the voltage to the valve on the WH when it is on (should be 12.0 or more) and check the resistance of valve when the WH is off. I don't know what it should be but some surfing the net should find you that answer,
